Ozone is important to agriculture and there are many options and opportunities for its use in the field whether for minimizing risk of disease, disinfecting or eliminating odours.
Reducing Risk of Disease
By mixing ozone with the atmosphere flies and other insects are repelled from the farm. Flies are the primary cause of infection in agriculture and eliminating them from the farms decreases risk of disease. Ozone also eliminates viruses and bacteria from the atmosphere. The result is that the air is purified, danger of disease is reduced and all odours are substantially diminished.
Ozone as a Disinfectant
Ozone has also been used as a disinfectant. It is injected, highly enriched, into the designated animal enclosure, which is left closed off for 24 hours and then thoroughly ventilated afterwards. This has given good results in agricultural areas for purposes of disinfection.
Reducing Odours
By killing bacteria odours are substantially diminished. RAF has also evolved ozonation equipment that mixes ozone with mud which eliminates odours before the mud is spread on the field. This is particularly helpful when farms are located near urban areas.
